Are SinusWars remedies FDA approved?

August 2, 2010

Firstly who are the FDA and what do they do?

The acronym FDA stands for the Food and Drug Administration. It is an agency that functions within the Department of Health and Human Services. Quite briefly the job of this agency is to assure that the public receives safe and effective drugs, food products, cosmetics and health products. They are also involved in improving health technology through providing science-accurate and up to date information to the public.

SinusWars is a company that sells natural homeopathic remedies. There are strict rules and regulations from the FDA that allow SinusWars to manufacture these products so that they can be sold.

You can find full information on these regulations under CPG Sec. 400.400 on the FDA website.

The document states that the FDA recognizes all drugs and standards found in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS), in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), the official National Formulary (NF) and in other additions to this. This means that only homeopathic medicine from these Homeopathic Pharmacopeia’s can be used.

There are other regulations set forth by the FDA. These include that all homeopathic medicine must in general meet the standards for strength, quality, potencies, dosing, purity and other parameters set forth in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia and in various approved Materia Medica’s.

The FDA states that it should be noted that even if a product falls in line with all the above regulations it does not declare that this product has been shown by suitable means to be safe, effective and that it has not been misbranded for its intended use.

There are also labeling conditions that every homeopathic medication should include on its product such as the name of the product and it’s potency, the address and identity of the company, directions of use, indications for use (OTC), ingredients, warnings (OTC), a declaration of net quantity of contents, a statement of dosage, the address and name of the manufacturer/packer/distributor and even the language to use. If the product is too small to accommodate all this information, a leaflet should be provided.

Firms which produce, prepare, mix and process homeopathic drugs must be registered as a drug establishment according to FDA standards (section 510; act 21 CFR 207) while passing all the above requirements.

Expiration dates and testing for release and distribution requirements are not needed for homeopathic medicine.

So…… Are SinusWars Remedies FDA Approved?

The FDA does not approve any companies or laboratories but rather every facility that manufactures homeopathic products should be certified by the FDA which then indicates that the facility has met certain standards which would allow them to produce safe and effective homeopathic medicine.

All SinusWars remedies are manufactured in an FDA certified and registered licensed facility which ensures that all our products are made with the highest standards and quality.

Every SinusWars product has its own NDC number as well. The acronym NDC stands for National Drug Code. This code is placed in a universal directory that’s serves to identify all human drugs.

The NDC number is made up of a 3 segment number that can be used to identify the product. The FDA inputs the full NDC number and the information submitted for the products into a database called the Drug Registration and Listing System (DRLS) or eDRLS for the electronic version. All this information is then made available to you by means of the National Drug Code Directory.

Those nasty sinus headaches!

July 7, 2010

Headaches!Extreme headaches, tenderness under and over your eyes, blurry vision or a pain in your head that feels worse when you bend are typical signs of a sinus headache. Many of us suffer with these symptoms and don’t know how to deal with them! We cannot concentrate at work, we feel miserable at home, headache tablets don’t help and decongestants only relieve symptoms temporarily!

What causes a sinus headache?

Sinus headaches are caused mainly by inflammation and blockages in your sinus cavities due to allergies, irritants, colds and sinusitis. Weather changes, change of season, pollution, tobacco smoke and dry air can also cause sinus headaches.

Your sinus cavities are bony air spaces in your forehead, behind your eyes and in your cheekbones that all connect to your nose. These cavities have a lining that produces mucus, which normally drains through the small openings to the nose. Colds and allergies cause the tissue that lines the sinuses to swell and produce excess mucus. This usually blocks the openings of your sinuses. When the sinus cavities are blocked, they may become congested and even infected therefore a headache occurs.

How do I know if I have a sinus headache?

Any of the following symptoms can indicate a sinus headache:

* A heavy forehead feeling that makes you feel dreary

* Pain that starts from the eyes and move towards the temple area

* Pain that seem to start from the back of the head and then cause a frontal headache

* Neck and shoulder pains that spread toward the head

* Pain in the temples spreading to the ear and nose

* If pressure is applied to the area around the eyes, cheeks or forehead…it aches

* A toothache like pain in the upper jaw

* Blurry vision caused by intense headaches

* A headache that pains more when you move your head

* Actions such as bending your head, coughing, exercising or blowing your nose that makes your headache feel worse

* A swollen, red face

* Congestion and stuffiness

* Exhaustion

If you are experiencing extreme headaches that occur unexpectedly or sudden-frequent headaches you could be suffering from migraines or cluster headaches and should consult your doctor.

Spring is here but so are allergies

June 30, 2010

The sun is shining and you feel miserable once again. You have a constantly running nose, you have itchy watery eyes and the Sneezing never stops. Well it seems to be that time of the year when indeed, Mother Nature strikes again and it’s “Allergy Season”.

Allergies often occur when the immune system mistakes unharmful substances (allergens) as harmful to your body. In order to protect the body, your immune system produces IgE antibodies to that allergen, these antibodies then cause certain cells in the body to release chemicals into the bloodstream causing an allergic reaction.

The main cause for why a person becomes sensitive to some foreign substances is still not fully understood. The problem usually runs in the family with relatives who suffer from the same or relating conditions and also some non hereditary issues.

Allergies also tend to act up when you are stressed, suffering from anxiety or when you feel emotional. You first have an allergy attack, on top of that you have to deal with the stress of everyday work, home and study and then the next day your symptoms are worse because of it!

It is not uncommon for people to complain of stress making allergies worst or longer lasting especially the next day when the effects of stress lingers.

Common symptoms of allergies (which all of us who have allergies know about) include sneezing, itchiness in the nose, eyes, throat and skin, post nasal drip, dark circles under the eyes and even asthmatic symptoms like coughing, noisy breathing and a tight chest.

Doctors diagnose you by first going through your medical history and then by performing various skin allergy tests and/or a blood test.

To treat these allergies, besides the medication that your doctor gives you, you can also do a bit by following a few of these tips:

  • When mowing the lawn or dusting the furniture in your home wear a face mask to protect your nose and mouth from pollen and dust.
  • Mildew is another cause of allergies; rid the home of this by keeping outdoor plants instead of indoor plants.
  • Pets are lovable but can also cause allergies because of the dander that they shed, so wash your pets regularly.
  • Wash weekly and alternate your pillows, blankets and clothing to minimize dust mites. You can also protect your mattress and pillows from dust mites and dust by covering them in plastic cloth.
  • Minimize stress by making use of a few relaxation techniques such as doing yoga, stretching often, meditating and breathing exercises.
  • Watch the news to stay informed when pollen counts are high. During these times stay indoors and try to keep windows and doors closed.
  • If you have any food allergies make it a habit to read food labels for things that you are allergic to.
  • Try to use an air conditioner, air filters and/or a dehumidifier in your home and car.

Sinusitis and viruses

April 23, 2010

Viral Infections

Viral infections like colds and flu’s are miserable and distressful. They cause one to feel weak, achy and ill. Viral infections mainly affect the respiratory tract (nose, sinus cavities, throat, larynx, trachea and lungs) and if this infection is left untreated, it can cause complications such as postnasal drip, ear infections and sinusitis.

Viruses cause colds and flu’s

When one has a cold or flu, the virus attacks red blood cells in the mucus membrane linings in the respiratory tract. These infected red blood cells then emit an alarm signal that calls up specialized white blood cells to fight the viruses. The immune chemicals produced by the white blood cells to fight the viruses cause swelling, inflammation and an increase in mucus production (the symptoms of a cold/flu).

Sinusitis

Untreated colds and flu’s lead to sinusitis

Sinusitis is the inflammation and infection of the sinus cavities. We now know that when we have a cold/flu our mucus membranes become swollen and inflamed, resulting in more mucus production to flush the virus away. How can this cause complications?

When the mucus membrane linings in the sinus cavities and nasal passages are inflamed and swollen, it blocks the sinus openings and does not allow mucus to drain. Stagnant mucus is a perfect place for bacteria to grow causing one to have a sinus infection.

What are the symptoms of a viral infection and a sinus infection?

How do you know if you have a viral or sinus infection? Here are some of the symptoms you may experience:

VIRAL INFECTION SINUS INFECTION
sneezing colds that do not respond to medication
runny nose facial swelling
sinus inflammation low grade fever
mouth breathing postnasal drip
sore throat congestion
headaches runny nose
coughing persistent cold/flu
fever bad breath
aching muscles ear infection
fatigue/tiredness loss of smell
heavy breathing headaches

Treatment

The best way to avoid a viral infection is for you to get vaccinated. Sinus infections can be avoided if you treat colds and flu’s before they cause complications. Here are a few help tips and remedies to use if you already have sinusitis:

  • Use a humidifier. Humidifiers and filters can be placed in your home to moisten and filter any allergens (pollen, dust) in the air. This will allow your sinuses to drain better and avoid irritation of your mucus membranes.
  • Take hot showers. This is an ideal solution, by inhaling the steam you can thin thick/ sticky mucus, moisten sinuses and help them to drain better.
  • Drink lots of water. By drinking lots of water, you help mucus to flow and keep the body hydrated.
  • Eating healthy foods. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables can make your immune system stronger so that your body can resist infections.
  • Avoid eating diary products. An over consumption of diary products, starchy foods and sugar can make mucus thick and viscid.
  • Practice good hygiene. Washing your hands frequently can have a huge impact on your health. Thousands of viruses and bacteria are all around us so this is the best way to protect ourselves.
  • Use SinusWars homeopathic remedies. SinusWars have great products that treat all the symptoms of sinusitis. History of Homeopathy

March 17, 2010

The founder of homeopathy is known as Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann. A man who came upon homeopathy during the years that he was translating medical and scientific textbooks.

He came upon the idea of developing the theory and methods of Homeopathy when he was converting an English book called “A Treatise on Materia Medica” to German, written by Scottish physician William Cullen.

In this book William Cullen mentioned that quinine which is made from Peruvian bark could be taken to strengthen the stomach. He himself a doctor would not agree with this, so decided to test it for himself. He took Peruvian bark two times a day and started to develop malaria symptoms. When he stopped taking the Peruvian bark his malaria symptoms stopped as well. This is where the principal of similars was born.

Like cures like, this is what the principal of similars are. Simply explained:

Substance in original, crude form + healthy person = experience illness

Substance in diluted form (homeopathically prepared) + ill person = healing

Two other men have had an idea of what homeopathy is, even before Samuel Hahnemann was born.

These men include:

Aristotle: according to speculation this man, born almost 2394 years ago, was also moving forward with the dogma that like cures like. He had an idea that if a microorganism which causes disease, works against a remedy that has a microorganism which causes disease in it, would then cancel each other out and bring the ill person back to health.

Another was Paracelsus: a physician born about 510 years ago who believed that diseases were caused by poisons. He believed that these poisons were not harmful by design, what determined a dangerous nature would either be the way related substances work with each other or how much of the poison was there. Paracelsus’s had a view that infections and sickness were caused by something outside the body. He was believed to be the founder of chemical and mineral medicine because he believed that there was a chemical remedy for every ailment.

Samuel Hahnemann over the ensuing years published many books after testing countless substances. Homeopathy even after all these verifications, research, development and clinical tests, not to mention the thousands of people around the world who have been successfully treated with homeopathy is still questioned and tried and yet is still curing and treating many people, all the while leaving conventional doctors dumbfounded!

In history Homeopathy has had a massive impact on medicine. Homeopathic hospitals were opened and homeopathic doctors had better patient successes than the physicians of the time.

Homeopathy even today is doing marvelous things for people’s health as more and more people are looking towards safer, natural and side effect free medicine. ♠
